Serving Returning Combat and Women Veterans
The VA Boston Healthcare System’s (VA BHS) Operation Iraqi Freedom/ Operation Enduring Freedom returning Veteran Program offers immediate and continuous outreach to returning veterans. VA BHS has a dedicated staff available to assist returning veterans in obtaining VA health care and offers continuous assistance to these veterans while enrolled in VA. The Center for Returning Veterans offers services including assistance with readjustment to civilian life upon returning home, individual counseling, family and couple counseling, assessment and referral for other mental health services. The OIFOEF coordinator also serves as a liaison to Military Treatment Facilities and coordinates the transfer of military personnel to VA BHS for continuation of their treatment.
The Women’s Programs at VA Boston Healthcare System provide medical and mental health care to women veterans and eligible family members. Our Women’s Health Centers, located in Boston and Brockton, provide primary and specialty care by medical providers who have expertise in women’s health and women veterans issues.Our Women’s Stress Disorder Treatment Team provides assessment and individual and group therapies. The Transitional Residence, located
in Jamaica Plain is a home for women veterans who have experienced
domestic violence, sexual trauma, and homelessness.
This home provides a therapeutic environment designed to facilitate reentry into the work force. Our Homeless Women’s Program provides intensive case management and outreach to women veterans who are homeless or at risk for homelessness. There are two Women Veteran Program Managers at VA Boston who are dedicated to meeting the needs of the VA’s women patients. Together, these programs are recognized as a VA Clinical Program of Excellence.
