Each year, COBTH member hospitals showcase their community benefit
programs and provide important medical education and screening at a State House event – Partnerships for Health Communities. The event provides an opportunity to recognize a leader who has demonstrated a commitment to the public health of the city and state with the presentation of COBTH’s Public Health Champion Award. In 2007, COBTH recognized Department of Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach for his work as Executive Director of the Boston Public Health Commission.
In June of 2008, COBTH presented Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino with its Public Health Champion Award. Mayor Menino was recognized for his leadership on public health issues such as tobacco control, cancer screening, domestic violence education and prevention and efforts to reduce and eliminate disparities in care. The Mayor’s work on these and other public health issues have made the City of Boston a healthier place in which to live and work.
